HOPE
My wish, deep within,
has not been to be just me…
but one half of we.
I watch other women
and men, bound
in marriage
and think and wonder
if I’m damaged
in some way.
I have and hold
on to a single
powerful thread of
hope.

IN THE SHELTER OF A FERN
Waiting tables
at the corner cafe,
making peanuts
compared to the job
she scored working
in the corner office,
her cabinets are bare.
What’s happening?
she cries.
Unable to cope,
no longer sturdy
in her own thoughts,
splintered ideas
guide her as she faces
her fractured world.
Closing her eyes,
she escapes
to the shelter of a fern.
