longing to drift
into the land of dreams
I fix rose-tinted glasses
on imagined horizon
vivid flora and palm fronds
dance in the breeze
gentle waves touch
tips of toes buried in sand
preludes to sleep
rendered ineffective
as tinny tones split the air
telling me it’s a new day
insidious insomnia
nicked my night
