Nick(ed) At Night

NICK(ED) AT NIGHT

Tropical Beach Sunset

longing to drift
into the land of dreams
I fix rose-tinted glasses
on imagined horizon

vivid flora and palm fronds
dance in the breeze
gentle waves touch
tips of toes buried in sand

preludes to sleep
rendered ineffective
as tinny tones split the air
telling me it’s a new day

insidious insomnia
nicked my night

  1. Oh, doesn’t that just frustrate you so much, when you lay awake all night long wanting to fall asleep!
Lovely capture of how frustrating insomnia is. 🙂

  2. Beautiful, meditative images, Paula. Sorry they didn’t work. Insomnia CAN be insidious and evil!

    1. To top it off…we had major thunderstorms passing through here last night. And all those overly-sensitive car alarms in the parking lot. *sigh* Maybe sleep will come to me tonight.

  3. Ah yes. I recognise this scene. This is my night, pretty much every night, although you are describing one of the really bad ones when just as you are succeeding, just as you can feel the mind slipping away, the alarm goes off.

      1. Absolutely best thing for that. Trust me here. GET UP. Get yourself a couple of bites of something carb-y. I usually grab a slice of american cheese but a couple of crackers or a piece of toast will do. Do NOT turn on the lights. Before you do this, have downloaded on your computer a solitaire game. Play for thirty minutes. Be strict. Go back to bed. Works a treat. I used to have the three o’clock in the morning thing. Now I stay up until twelve-thirty to try an circumnavigate it.

  4. Insidious insomnia – loved these two words together- thought the rose tinted glasses line was superb- made me think of every time I’ve lad awake thinking like this- and desperate to fall asleep

    1. Thanks, Stu. The first words written were “insidious insomnia”, I just had to decide where to use them. And, with “tinted” as one of the prompt words, “rose-tinted” was the next phrase written down. I’m glad you enjoyed those two pairings. Thanks for stopping by.

  5. You have written ‘insomnia’ as it exists for so many. I suffer too sometime, maybe we all do. I wrote an insomnia poem too, oddly enough.

    1. It seems many can relate! I was out all day today, so I haven’t been around to read yet. But I’ll swing by soon to read your take on insomnia. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Aw, thanks ViV! I guess my muse was as equally tired as I was, since I wrote about insomnia! 😉 Thanks for stopping in to leave me a note. 🙂 *hugs*
