ONCE UPON A FULL MOON
why
did I
have to fall
in love by the
light of the full moon
so bright? every month I
gravitate to its brilliance –
drawn in by the beams of the night –
lost momentarily in memories
of you, and days that are long out of sight.

A prompt at dVerse Poets Pub asked us to write a poem of beautiful sadness. Click their link to read the excellent example on their post, as well as a whole host of other poets’ responses to the prompt.
I am also linking to “100 Days of Summer” on Facebook, for Day 40.
Very nice!

There is a real sweetness here that I latched on to even through the sense of loss.

Thank, Lori. The exercise was to convey beautiful sadness…so I’m glad both came through for you. Thanks for your visit!

this is so so nice….something about the moon that makes us reflective…almost like we meditate on it…use it as a mirror- these closing lines really ramp up the emotion and that lovely beautiful sadness resonates as well as the moonlight in the picture…great poem (oh-and great form too!)

Thanks so much, Stu! I appreciate your taking the time to visit!!
Thanks, too, for the feedback! I was excited to read your prompt — because I (un)fortunately(?) have a “sadness” streak to much of what I write, so I knew I’d be able to come up with something new for the prompt. I’m glad the “beautiful” came out, as well.
Again…thanks for stopping by.

nice….a bit of love, a bit of longing…and the sad realization that those days are gone….

Paula, I loved the form you chose for this poem, it’s like the flow of longing, down to the end.
