Paint the town red?
Red is all I see.
Seeing angry faces,
facing hardship and loss–
loss of jobs and homes.
Homes aren’t even safe,
safe is all some kids want.
Want to paint the town red?
Red is all I see.

P. Wanken

Inspired by several prompts…Poetic Bloomings In-Form Poet: Loop Poetry; 100 Days of Summer Prompt: Paint The Town Red; and dVerse Poet’s Pub: write a poem about the fractured nature of the modern world.

    1. Thanks, Laurie! I don’t always succeed, but I do try to start off thinking about a prompt in a way to see if I can come up with a different angle. And…re: the three prompts: it helps when one is a FORM prompt. 🙂

  1. This evokes the recent heatwave and power outages here. Well said. And how you can manage not 1, not 2, but 3 prompts–props to you! Peace…

    1. Thank you, drwasy! I appreciate the “props.” As for the heatwave…not sure where you are, but I’m sorry to hear of the power outages! I’ve lived in TX for 9 years now, and it seems like the whole time has been a heatwave for this Midwest girl! But that’s with a functional a/c! STAY COOL!

  2. There is so much of this hidden red, I think, with all the people out of work and the homes getting taken away. Your poem reflects that hidden reality, which makes so many hurt though we do not hear their words or sighs though here they are in your poem.
