TUNNEL VISION
suffocating
panic
darkness closes around me
like tunnel walls —
closerandcloser,
surrounding me;
I feel my feet
moving forward…
yet
The end
seems farther
and nearer
all at the same time;
I cannot see
what’s to my
left
or
right,
the light at
The end
serves as a beacon
yet
blinds me;
I no longer
care
about the stone
in my shoe,
I only want to be at
The end.

This captures the tone and the feel of a nightmare. I loved it. Great writing. You’ve come a long way in the past year.

Thank you, Mosk! Your words of encouragement were among the first last April. I appreciated them then, and possibly even more so today–having read my words for a year. Thank you. Truly. ~Paula

Oh, I LOVE the thought of the stone in the shoe…how the little things no longer trouble us when the big things come. How perfect.

Thanks, De.
It was a great photo prompt — I just didn’t have a little story for it, at Flashy Fiction, though. (And…following the admonition to keep my poetry in its place.) 😉
