Fearfully Unaware

FEARFULLY UNAWARE

alone in the kitchen
unaware of time

the fullness of silence,
once preferred, closes in

immobilizes

I hate the shadows.

eyes dart
from hands, wrapped around metal,
over objects nearby

What is that woolly thing?
A coat. It’s a white coat.
She’s coatless!

admonishing
her own forgetfulness
fear rises within

“WHERE IS MY DAUGHTER?”

momentary clarity
returns her to reality

…not daughter…
…granddaughter…

the room is silent
once again
