a secret kept

a secret kept

there’s something different
about the look in her eyes
she looks lost
distant
like her mind is in a faraway place

there’s something different
about the way she stands
she looks defeated
afraid
like she has lost all trust

there’s something different
about the way she talks
she sounds tired
timid
like she no longer has anything to say

there’s something different
about her
since summer’s end –
but what?

she doesn’t say so
but
there is something different…
she
has a secret
that no one will know

    1. Thanks, Jingle, for the invite…and for your comments on other posts I have made. I appreciate the feedback! And…I’ll look through some of my poems and decide which to post. ~ Paula
